Trunk sewer inspection services from AquaCoustic

Trunk sewers

Other underwater survey services from AquaCoustic

AquaCoustic Remote Technologies specializes in inspections of underwater structures such as trunk or mainline sewers, hydro dams, reservoirs, ports and bridge abutments using a wide range of technologies to create accurate condition assessments. AquaCoustic principals have over 30 years experience in assessing underwater conditions. Our clients include many major civil engineering firms and municipalities throughout North America.

Sonar trunk sewer inspections enable you to know exact sewer conditions before obtaining cleaning bids

To determine trunk or interceptor sewer conditions AquaCoustic uses its proprietary Alpha Sewer Inspection System. AS-IS combines digital sonar, digital CCTV, gas analysis, and positioning technology to acquire extremely accurate and comprehensive assessments of sewers during operation. AS-IS can be used in pipe diameters from 12” to 100 ft, operates without the need to by-pass or de-water, and can be deployed up to 1 mile from the access point.

AS-IS data acquisition and transmission is completely digital, using armored fiber optic cabling to ensure high quality imagery and data telemetry from the instrumentation platform. Post-processing of the results is performed by proprietary AS-IS software and can be output in a variety of formats for analysis, including AutoCAD, MS Access database, graphical and 3D representation.

AquaCoustic typically uses AS-IS for base-line surveys, condition assessments, pre-bid surveys (usually reduces cleaning bid prices), post-contract surveys, repeat surveys to monitor conditions, surveys to determine budgets for planned future work, and drainage area studies. The system can be deployed with little or no disruption to flow.

Advantages

  • Operates without the need for by-pass pumping or de-watering.
  • Survey 1 mile of trunk sewer line from the access point.
  • Lower cost of cleaning bids by using actual conditions (not worst case).
  • Combines multiple technologies for a comprehensive, accurate assessment.
  • High quality digital video captures all defects for later analysis.

Applications

  • Classification and location of sediment build-up and sediment volume prior to sending out RFPs for cleaning.
  • Identification of localized structural damage such as joint misalignments.
  • Quantify pipe loss such as scour and erosion due to turbulence, gas, and/or cleaning operations.
  • Measurement of pipe size and distortion, including ovality and meander, to enable accurate liner specification and cost-effective trenchless rehabilitation.
  • Baseline and rate-of-change surveys to predict cleaning schedules and avoid costly unscheduled maintenance or failures.
  • Post-contract verification to ensure the effectiveness of sewer installation and cleaning projects.
  • Calculation of the current storage capacity of a sewer system.
  • Determination of as-built locations of sewer features from within the pipe.
  • Used for pre-cleaning assessments, post-cleaning verifications and as-built comparisons.
